Built From a Love
of the Outdoors
Camping, carpentry, and 60 years of learning what actually belongs in a pack.
Wilderness Gear Grid was created from a simple love of camping, the outdoors, and the gear that makes getting outside more practical, comfortable, and fun.
I'm Mike, a carpenter, outdoor enthusiast, and lifelong lover of camping and camping gear. Over the years, I've learned that having the right equipment can make a big difference when you're spending time outdoors. A well-designed tool, a useful gadget, or a piece of gear that solves a real problem can turn a good trip into a great one.
At 78 years old, I've had plenty of time to learn what I like, what works, and what doesn't.
Camping Has Always Been Part of the Adventure
My interest in practical camping started long before today's modern camping gadgets and equipment.
Over the years, I've built several vans into small camping motorhomes. Some of my earliest projects were built around early-1960s Volkswagen buses. I transformed them into practical little camping spaces with mini kitchens, couches that unfolded into beds, and the essentials needed to make life on the road more comfortable.
Those projects taught me something that has stayed with me ever since:
"Good outdoor gear should make the experience better, not more complicated."
That's the idea behind Wilderness Gear Grid.
Why Wilderness Gear Grid Exists
There is an enormous amount of camping and outdoor equipment available today. From tents and sleeping gear to camp kitchens, lighting, power solutions, backpacks, outdoor clothing, and useful gadgets, it can be difficult to know what is actually worth considering.
Wilderness Gear Grid is my way of bringing interesting and useful outdoor products together in one place.
The goal isn't simply to list as many products as possible. It's about discovering gear that can make camping, hiking, traveling, and spending time outdoors easier, more comfortable, and more enjoyable.
I especially enjoy finding practical products and clever gadgets that solve everyday problems around the camphttps://wildernessgeargrid.com/ or on the road.
From Building Campers to Finding Better Gear
Building my own camping vans gave me a hands-on appreciation for making the most of limited space and choosing equipment for a purpose.
When you're turning a small van into a place to cook, sleep, relax, and travel, every piece of equipment has to earn its place.
That same mindset continues to influence how I look at outdoor gear today.
Whether you're preparing for a weekend camping trip, planning a longer adventure, outfitting a camper, or simply looking for something useful for your next time outdoors, I want Wilderness Gear Grid to help you discover ideas and products worth knowing about.
